Leaving soon

We're leaving Friday for the roadtrip. Things feel like they are coming together for the trip. The kids' anxiety rises and falls about leaving for 6 1/2 weeks, but I think we're all excited in our own ways. I'm working on and stressing excessively over a grant proposal that I had hoped to finish before we leave. I can see now that I will have to finish it from the road. This is theoretically fine because I planned to work on the trip. However because this proposal has caused so much stress, I wish that I would be doing something less pressing (and other person-dependent) while away.

If you're wondering, like everyone else, if we're "really homeschooling" yet, the answer is that we are. But not like most people expect. We're taking the advice of (one strand of) homeschoolers and starting off slowly. The kids need emotional space to realize that they aren't going to school. And to realize that there are days to fill on their own. They've read and done projects that have interested them, but that's it. We'll "really homeschool" when we get home. Maybe. :-)
