Farmers' Museum

Today Matt took the kids to The Soccer Hall of Fame in a nearby town. They had a great time and got great pics. Hopefully, he will write about it. I was working on my grant proposal, which continues to have problems getting done.

In the afternoon, I took the kids to Farmers’ Museum. It is a working (pretty much) 1840s village with buildings moved from different places in New York state to the museum. There are people dressed in period clothing made there, doing jobs that would need to be done. It was really cool. Among other things, we learned that there were lots of flies where there was food or animals, cooking in a fire was quite a process, some outhouses were a “double” so you could use it with a friend, and that a cow will come when called. The kids got to milk a cow, which they did with great skill for city kids. ☺ Cooperstown is deserted and the Farmers’ Museum was the same. Mine were the only kids there. They told us that on busy weekends, 100 kids milk the cow per day! Traveling in the off season is great!

Tonight we took a paddleboat out on Ostego Lake. It’s gorgeous here. I can see why people love to vacation here.
